BYOD

If you're going to the Olympics and have a craving for doggy dumpling, you're SOL:

Beijing has asked hotels and restaurants in the city to take dog meat off the menu for the duration of next month's Olympics and September's Paralympics.

...Concerned that canine dishes might offend animal rights groups and Western visitors, Beijing said restaurants expected to be popular among foreign visitors must stop serving dog meat "to respect the dining customs of different countries."

The directive "advocated" that all restaurants serving dog suspend it during the Olympics but made no mention of the many popular establishments with donkey on the menu.

Let Them Eat Puppy

From Slate:

Confused? I sure am. Let's sort this out. To comply with Western sensibilities, the Koreans officially banned dog meat. But they don't enforce the ban, presumably because they don't share the abhorrence. And why should they? Why exactly is it gross to eat dogs but OK to slaughter pigs, which, by most measures, are smarter? So we've started with irrationality compounded by hypocrisy.

Now we have a health problem. According to the article, Korean dog "slaughtering and processing is carried out in dirty environments and poses risks to diners' health." Why the dirty environments? Apparently because the formal ban prevents the government from classifying dogs as livestock so it can regulate their slaughter and processing as it does with pigs.

Puppy Found. Edwards Still Missing.

A puppy feared missing after the tornado ripped through the Fulton Cotton Mill lofts has been found:

P.J. Bullock barely survived Friday night's tornado. He feared his dog, Jackson, wasn't so lucky.

Sunday afternoon, he and a friend returned to the Cotton Mill Lofts in Cabbagetown to look one last time for his 3-month-old mixed breed German shepherd. He was able to persuade a firefighter to check the apartment where the puppy was last seen.

They found him underneath a couch," said Bullock, who was having dinner in a top-floor loft on the Boulevard side of Building E when the tornado struck

The dog apparently had scampered underneath the furniture just as one of the apartment's walls was collapsing. That's where he was discovered Sunday, safely ensconced amid the rubble.

"Jackson was OK ... completely healthy," said Bullock, who likewise escaped the storm "without a scratch."

No thanks to John Edwards.

Douchebag.
