I Miss My Former Mayor

I've always loved Shirley Franklin. Sure, you can find her negatives, but overall (especially considering the old Atlanta guard she came from) she's proven to be an effective leader.

I still have fond memories of her first campaign, when she came in to my store in Midtown and posed for pictures and even gave up a hug. Shirley also used to have impromptu marches down the streets of ATL, the best while traveling down Ponce on a flatbed with a hype man screaming over a loudspeaker "It's Shirley Franklin time. It's Shirley Franklin time."

Anywho, at today's MLK celebration at Ebenezer, Shirley took a shot at Bill Clinton, who was seated only 20 feet away from her:

Franklin said the country is on the "cusp of turning the impossible into reality. Yes, this is reality, not fantasy or fairy tales."

This was a direct reference to Bill, who invoked "fairy tale" to describe Barry's campaign.

Ha.
